Open Axiom Connectivity case holding QSFP and SFP optical transceivers

OSP Materials is the manufacturers’ representative for Axiom Connectivity across Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Illinois, and we quote Axiom orders directly. We help ISPs, telcos and co-ops specify Axiom optical transceivers, cables and optical-network tools, so the right form factor, reach and platform coding show up at turn-up the first time.

Why Axiom optical transceivers

Every fiber link ends in an optic, and OEM-branded optics can take a big bite out of a network budget. Axiom Connectivity is the optics and interconnects division of Axiom, which has been making OEM-alternative IT upgrades since 1995. Axiom says its transceivers are coded in-house to OEM specifications, come with unique serialization, follow MSA standards, and go through 100% application testing under operating conditions. Axiom backs its transceivers with a limited lifetime warranty and states that using its products does not void your OEM equipment warranty.

Take the optics off your equipment order

When you buy switches, routers, OLTs or transport gear from Cisco, Adtran, Ciena or almost any other equipment maker, the optics usually come bundled on the same bill of materials at the manufacturer’s price. You don’t have to buy them that way. Strike the OEM optics from the order and source Axiom equivalents, coded for your platform, instead.

How much you save depends on the platform, the optics and the quantity, so we price it deal by deal. Send us your equipment list or OEM optic part numbers and we’ll quote the matching Axiom optics side by side.

What OSP Materials helps you specify

  • Form factor, data rate and reach matched to each link: access, backhaul, ring or core
  • Platform coding for your OLTs, routers and switches, or MSA-standard optics for open gear
  • GPON / XGS-PON class matching (B+, C+, C++, N1, N2) to your split ratios and distances
  • BiDi, CWDM and DWDM channel plans, including tunables and the Axiom Tuning/Coding Box
  • DAC/AOC lengths and breakouts for central office and headend racks
  • Axiom evaluation units and TAA documentation

Access, backhaul and long-reach optics

  • BiDi (single-fiber): 100M, 1G SFP and CSFP, 10G SFP+ and XFP, 25G SFP28, 40G QSFP+ and 100G QSFP28. Axiom's 10G BiDi list includes 40 km parts (example: 10GBASE-BX-U SFP+, 1270/1330 nm).
  • CWDM: 1G SFP, 10G SFP+, 10G XFP and 100G QSFP28.
  • DWDM: fixed-channel 1G SFP and 10G SFP+, plus tunable 10G SFP+ and XFP (50 GHz and 100 GHz, with Autotune versions). Axiom rates its 10G tunables at up to 80 km. Axiom says one tunable part number can replace the 48 to 96 fixed-channel part numbers needed to cover the full C-band.
  • Coherent 400G: 400G ZR and ZR+ QSFP-DD tunable DCO modules (Axiom lists the ZR at 120 km, full C-band).
  • Core and data center: 100G SR4, LR4, ER4, ZR4, CWDM4 and single-lambda DR/FR; 400G SR8, DR4, FR4, LR4, LR8 and 4×100G breakout.

OEM compatibility and coding

Axiom optics come pre-configured with platform-specific coding for the OLTs, routers and switches regional networks run: Calix®, Adtran® and Nokia®, plus Cisco®, Juniper® and more. MSA-standard versions are available for open platforms. Axiom also offers multi-coded optics and a field Tuning/Coding Box (below). Mixing platforms or migrating? OSP Materials can build a part-number cross-reference before you order.

More from Axiom Connectivity

Axiom Connectivity EDFA optical amplifier module with LC fiber ports

EDFA optical amplifiers

Axiom's EDFA family covers long-haul and metro links where attenuation limits reach: an XFP pluggable EDFA, an EDFA ISAP platform, and a 1550 nm optical amplifier. The pluggable EDFA fits a standard XFP port and comes in booster and pre-amp versions. Axiom positions it as amplification without buying an extra 1U/2U/4U chassis.

Coiled Axiom Connectivity network patch cables in assorted colors

Cables: DAC, AOC, fiber and copper

Axiom offers passive and active DAC cables (10G SFP+ to 400G QSFP-DD, including breakouts) and AOC cables (10G to 100G). Both come pre-coded for OEM equipment. Axiom also lists bend-insensitive BENDnFLEX™ fiber, Cat5e to Cat8 copper patch cables, and custom cables it describes as TAA compliant and made in the USA.

Axiom Tuning/Coding Box with SFP, QSFP and XFP ports beside its packaging

Tuning/Coding Box

Code Axiom optics for OEM platforms and tune DWDM tunables to C-band channels (50–100 GHz spacing) in the field. Coding Box 2.0 is pocket-sized and Bluetooth-enabled, and works with the AXCoder™ app on Android and iOS. It supports SFP, SFP+, XFP, QSFP+, QSFP28 and DAC/AOC cables. Axiom pitches it as a way to carry fewer spares.
